If you live in Qatar, you’ve probably heard of Metrash — but there’s some confusion worth clearing up first. The app most guides still call “Metrash2” was officially discontinued. Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) replaced it with a new Metrash app starting December 2024, and by 1 March 2025 the old Metrash2 stopped working entirely. If you still have Metrash2 installed, it no longer functions — you need the new app.
This guide covers the current Metrash app: what it does, how to register, and the services people use it for most.
What is the Metrash app?
Metrash is the official mobile application of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior. It’s free on both the App Store and Google Play, and it gives residents and citizens access to more than 400 government services without visiting an MOI service centre in person. That includes Qatar ID (QID) renewals, traffic fine payments, visa and residency services, driving licence renewals, and exit permit management.
How to register
- Download “Metrash” from the App Store or Google Play — make sure it’s the official listing published by the Ministry of Interior – Qatar.
- Open the app and register using your Qatar ID (QID) number.
- Use a mobile number registered under your own name with a Qatar carrier (Ooredoo or Vodafone). SIMs registered under an employer or sponsor’s name generally won’t work — you’ll need to transfer the SIM into your own name first.
- Complete verification through the OTP sent to that number, then set your login PIN.
If registration fails, the most common cause is the SIM connection: try switching off Wi-Fi and using mobile data instead, since the verification SMS sometimes doesn’t arrive over Wi-Fi calling. Roaming mode can also block it — registration generally requires being connected to a Qatari network.
What you can do in the app
- QID services: check status, renew, request replacement
- Traffic services: check and pay fines, view black points, renew driving licences
- Visa & residency: check visa status, manage dependents, exit permits where applicable
- Travel: apply for a return permit if you’ve been outside Qatar more than six months, pre-register for Abu Samra border crossing
A word of caution
Only download Metrash from the official App Store or Google Play listing published by the Ministry of Interior – Qatar. Third-party sites offering an “APK download” for government apps are a common scam vector — never install one from outside the official app stores.
Procedures and requirements can change — always confirm current steps and any fees directly in the app or on the official MOI Qatar portal before relying on this guide for anything time-sensitive.
